Delegates from all over the world assembled in Harrogate for the International Wool Textile Organisation Congress 2017. On Saturday they came down to farm level and visited Scaife Hall Farm, the home of Chris and Christine Ryder (an Addington Trustee). Chris and Christine farm several breeds of sheep which they put on display and next door neighbour James Wilson came to demonstrate his shearing ability.
Following a coach tour to look at the moorland grazing the party returned to the farm for lunch. The delegates very generously supported the work of the Addington Fund.
It was interesting to hear about the importance of wool to so many countries around the world. Talking to a major Australian wool broker, due to demand for fine wools he wants to see the Merino sheep population in Australia increase…by 30 million ewes!!!
