If you currently work as, or have retired from being, a farmworker (working on someone else’s farm which is a registered agricultural holding) and on a low income in England or Wales, we may be able to help you. We provide grants to make sure you are adequately equipped with essential furnishings in your home, or other necessary items.

We are able to offer you this support through the George Stephens Trust Fund (GSTF), a grant giving charity which offers help to farmworkers in need.

This funding can be awarded to you if you are or were employed on a farm, for 5 consecutive years within the last 10 years and are resident in England or Wales or you are a widow, widower, or a dependent of someone who was employed on a farm, for 5 consecutive years within the last 10 years and are resident in England or Wales.

We are able to help farmworkers, our definition being someone employed in the production of food from livestock, poultry, crops, or dairy products. This scheme does not cover equine related occupations.

In qualifying circumstances, we can offer a single grant of up to £1000 to purchase white goods for the home, or other items where alternative funding isn’t available. This includes:

  • Washing machine, fridge and cooker

  • Telephones

  • Lighting

  • Home furnishings

  • Shower

  • Bed

  • Vehicle repairs

  • Help towards heating costs

  • Disability equipment (not covered by other organisations)

  • Help with rental deposit for your home (when not provided by your Council)

  • Any other items at the discretion of our Trustees (please ask)

How to apply

You can apply directly by completing an application form, or someone from another organisation can apply on your behalf. This could be your GP or someone from the community, Social Services, British Legion or the farming help charities such as the Farming Community Network or RABI.

Are you a recognised third party who would like to support someone with a claim? If so, please call us on 01926 620135.
