Farming Charity to Celebrate Lammas at Historic Suffolk Church

Addington Fund will host its annual Lammas service in Suffolk, where the charity was first founded, on Friday, 1 August. Everyone is warmly invited to attend the service, which will be followed by a hog roast and refreshments.

All donations from the service go back to supporting farmers in times of crisis and since the first Lammas Service in 2014, St Peter’s and St Paul, Hoxne have raised nearly £25,000 for Addington Fund.

Addington Fund was born in 2000 during the swine fever crisis, when Canon Sally Fogden and Reverend Richard Addington recognised the urgent need to support struggling farmers. Acting swiftly, Sally named the charity in Richard’s honour—without his knowledge at the time. “It was all I could think of,” she recalled. “He had inspired so many and faithfully served as a country priest across Suffolk until illness forced his early retirement.”

In its early days, the charity distributed £100,000 to around 100 pig farmers across Suffolk, Essex, and Norfolk. The following year, it expanded its support during the Foot and Mouth outbreak and has since grown into a vital lifeline for farmers across England and Wales. Today, Addington Fund provides housing support, emergency aid through Forage Aid, and opportunities for new entrants to farming.

The Lammas Service, which marks the beginning of the harvest season, will take place at the Church of St Peter and St Paul with St Edmund in Hoxne, Suffolk, IP21 5AT starting at 6:00 PM. After the service, guests are invited to enjoy a hog roast and refreshments, kindly provided by Peter Havers.

All are welcome. Please RSVP by emailing events@addingtonfund.org.uk or calling 01926 620135.
